 AT SEA

Today we transited the Straits of Florida passing just 17 miles east of Miami. We turned east into the New Providence Channel (better known as “Hole in the Wall”) that lies south of Grand Bahama Island. It has been a beautiful day with an easterly wind of 15 to 20 knots and moderate seas.

One of the main events of the day was Casino Night where we set up a “casino” on the 03 Reception Deck with Black Jack, Craps, and Roulette. Every student starts with $2,500 (they only wish it were real) and they play for an hour to build it into more or lose it. We then auction prizes off that range from a GPS, binoculars, Leatherman tools, and some cash prizes as well as gag gifts. Roughly 100 cadets participated with members of the staff and faculty acting as dealers. It was a great time as tomorrow’s photos of the event will confirm.

The captain altered course back to the west to reduce the wind across the deck so the money didn’t end up blowing away, and we have now returned to our easterly course through New Providence Channel.

Tomorrow is our last holiday of cruise 2012 so everyone is looking forward to a relaxing day.
