Traveling South of Haiti

It was sunny and warm again today. We traveled to the West end of Haiti to rendezvous with the

California training ship, Golden Bear. They were waiting for us near our meeting latitude and longitude coordinates. We picked them up on radar around 0700 and visually shortly thereafter.

This was an historic occasion as I don’t believe two school ships have meet at sea like this before.

Their ship is a sister ship to the State of Maine. They have a slightly different arrangement in the room configuration and they have six lifeboats instead of four. We circled them about ½ mile off and took pictures. They sent over a rescue boat with four of their students and a PR person in it. We sent over three of our students and a deck training officer who had graduated from California Maritime Academy. Each group exchanged gifts, and then it was back aboard their respective vessels and we were on our way again.

Right now we are headed east towards Puerto Rico. We will then turn SSW and head for Curacao.
