STATEMENT OF THE JOB
Employee reports to the Master or his designated subordinate. Employee is assigned duties, work schedules, and long term projects through consultation with the vessel’s Master, Chief Engineer and Port Captain.
DUTIES OF THE JOB
1. Responsible for researching suppliers, processing requisitions, forwarding and liaison with MMA purchasing, tracking and periodic reporting, the vessels consumable and spare parts needs, including vessel work orders.
2. Responsible for liaison with MARAD regarding government reimbursable stores, spares and supplies, including vessel work orders. Also responsible for monthly MARAD reports of spare parts and inventory control and periodic Department and Academy reports.
3. Responsible for receiving all vessels stores and spares, entering and tracking same in supplied computer program, storing stores and spares in appropriate areas and issuing stores and spares when needed.
4. Responsible for GSA purchasing and system tracking and reports as they relate to the Training Vessel.
5. Conducts equipment validations, develops spare parts requirements and processes findings into the system.
6. Maintains vessel store rooms in a neat and orderly manner in accordance with safe shipboard practice.
7. Responsible for stowage, use and tracking of Material Safety Data Sheets and all Hazardous Materials aboard ship and the proper disposal record keeping and compliance with safety regulations. Complies with Academy rules, regulations and safety policies as they relate to the position.
8. Responsible for the vessel’s housekeeping needs and supplies and acts as vessel liaison with the Regiment, Housekeeping, Conferences and any others using the vessel.
9. Conducts training in storekeeping principals, spare parts inventory/stowage and safe use, stowage and disposal of Hazardous Materials.
10.Disburses student payroll and crew payroll wage advances as directed by the Human Resources Director during cruise and is responsible for ship funds used for contingencies and cruise expenses and the submittal of accounting records.
11.Maintains ship crew time sheets and records for submittal to the Master.
12.Responsible to keep logs and records of all ships equipment destined for salvage or scrapping and final distribution of all funds received.
13.Is assigned to the vessel and as such participates in all deployments and adheres to the dress code and conduct of the Academy Regiment.
14.May supervise students and/or regular academy employees.
