STATEMENT OF THE JOB
Employee serves as U.S.C.G. licensed crewmember, and operates various academy vessels. Employee must possess and maintain a minimum able bodied seaman certification. Employee must have a strong mechanical background. Employee must be able to instruct and work closely with MMA students. Employee also has a considerable degree of external contact.
DUTIES OF THE JOB
1. Under the direction of the Director of Waterfront Services, employee is primarily responsible for deck, engine and machinery maintenance on the tug Pentagoet and other academy vessels.
2. Employee must have good navigation skills.
3. Employee assists with tug/towing classes and other waterfront programs and works closely with MMA students.
4. Employee assists the tug captain with various deck and engine room safety procedures.
5. Employee assists with the preparation of various academy vessels, for U.S.C.G., A.B.S., insurance and shipyard inspections.
6. Employee operates and crews on various Academy sail and power vessels, as directed by the Director of Waterfront Services.
7. Employee must be in good physical condition, and able to pass random drug/alcohol testing.
8. Employee supervises MMA students including the midshipmen maintenance program. May supervise regular Academy employees.
9. Employee is responsible for compliance with safety regulations.
