STATEMENT OF THE JOB
Employee is responsible as second in command of the Academy Schooner Bowdoin. Employee must possess applicable U. S. Coast Guard license. Employee has a moderate degree of public contact representing the Academy. Employee may provide input for budget and report preparation.
DUTIES OF THE JOB
1. Employee must stand bridge watches, operate and navigate the vessel safely.
2. Supervises the deck crew when entering or leaving port of anchorage.
3. Assists Captain and supervises boat drills, fire drills, and other emergency actions.
4. Supervises and assists with loading, unloading and storage of equipment and stores.
5. Performs regular inspections of vessel including: safety, proper storage of gear and equipment, maintenance of watertight integrity, safety of the sailing rig.
6. Supervises and assists deck crew in cleaning and maintenance of the vessel and equipment.
7. Assures storage and inventory of safety, firefighting, lifesaving, and other equipment.
8. Assists Captain with vessel operations and instruction, as assigned.
9. Responsible for compliance with safety regulations.
