JOB TITLE: First Assistant Engineer - Training Vessel

STATEMENT OF THE JOB
Employee will report to the Chief Engineer of the training vessel, assume duties as assigned by the Chief Engineer, and be fully prepared to assume the responsibilities and duties of the Chief Engineer, if needed. Employee may supervise other ship's engineers and unlicensed ship engineering personnel. In addition, employee will be expected to participate in the education and training of license program students as assigned. Employee must possess a B. S. Degree and applicable U. S. Coast Guard license (Unlimited H.P. Motor as a minimum), and have recent experience with propulsion diesel engines, heavy fuel operation, and related auxiliary machinery.
DUTIES OF THE JOB
1. Assists Chief Engineer with implementation and administration of planned maintenance program.
2. Responsible to the Chief Engineer for compliance with the Environmental Health and Safety policy of the Academy as well as the ISM safety program as they pertain to the engineering department of the training vessel.
3. Teach 3-6 credit hours or equivalent contact hours as assigned by the Engineering Department Chair.
4. Participates in academy committees as assigned.
5. Conducts training and practical drills in emergency operations including engine room evacuation, engine room fire fighting, and machinery casualties.
6. Position includes participation in annual training cruise and other sea duty as assigned.
7. Available for call-ins while the training vessel is in-port.
8. As a uniformed officer, will comply with the regimental uniform regulations as modified by the Commandant for staff officers.
9. May be assigned to serve on other Academy vessels.
10. May supervise students and regular employees as assigned.
