STATEMENT OF THE JOB

The Director of Health Services oversees and provides comprehensive health services to Academy students. Besides health care duties that are appropriate, this job will also include record keeping, budget preparation and management, and administration of the U.S. Coast Guard drug testing program.

DUTIES OF THE JOB

1.      Provides physical and psychological assessment of Academy students, graduate and undergraduate, using a systematic method of data collection and observation.

2.      Assists the Academy Physician in screening the physical examination and immunization forms of entering first year students.

3.      Assist the Physician in the provision of primary medical care to the Academy students. Dispenses medication as ordered by Physician.

4.      Provides nursing care according to Nursing Practice Standards and dispenses over-the-counter medication.

5.      Provides emergency care to Academy students and employees and assists with follow up care.

6.      Maintains all student’s charts and records necessary for Academy Health Services.

7.      Provides job related appropriate vaccine to employees.

8.      Maintains and orders pharmacy inventory and equipment from designated suppliers for Health Services during the school year and to the T.V.State of Maine during cruise.

9.      Serves as liaison with the Academy and area health agencies.

10.  Assists students and parents with insurance information and claims.

11.  Administers required drug testing program.

12.  Trains and supervises work study students to perform duties in Health Services and aboard the TVSOM during cruise.
