STATEMENT OF THE JOB
Employeeperforms simple work necessary to maintain cleanliness, an orderly appearance, and sanitation of the Academy grounds, roads, walks, and buildings. Work is performed within established procedures with written and verbal instructions. Some minor decision-making concerning details of work is exercised. While this job classification encompasses a wide range of interrelated tasks requiring comparable levels of knowledge, skill, ability, etc., incumbents of individual positions are designated as either "building" or "grounds" maintenance worker in recognition of the primary focus of individual assignments.
DUTIES OF THE JOB
1. Cleans and operates building and maintenance equipment as directed and in accordance with department standards and policy.
2. Sweeps walks and picks-up litter.
3. May move furniture and equipment within the building or from trucks.
4. Shovels and/or sweeps snow.
5. Reports items in need of repair to a supervisor.
6. Replaces light bulbs.
7. Unlocks and secures buildings as necessary.
8. May make beds and issue linen.
9. May complete laundry duties as assigned.
10. Mows grass, waters lawns, feeds and trims shrubs, tends to flower beds, and inspects assigned work areas to ensure proper standards are maintained.
11. Operates a variety of building maintenance and/or lawn and grounds equipment, including floor scrubbers, carpet extractors, buffers, power mowers, snow plows and/or snow blowers.
12. Performs minor mechanical work and adjustments of all building maintenance and/or lawn and grounds equipment.
13. Cleans and operates building maintenance equipment as directed and in accordance with department standards and policy.
14. Moves furniture and equipment.
15. Picks-up and properly disposes of Academy solid waste at designated disposal sties.
16. May transport and deliver supplies and other light items throughout the Academy.
17. May perform painting duties.
18. May supervise student and/or regular Academy employees.
19. May perform mail distribution duties as assigned.
