STATEMENT OF THE JOB

Employee serves as the Assistant Director of Athletics and is responsible for Athletic Facilities, Event Operations, and Sports Information.  The position assists in the supervision of 11 intercollegiate athletic programs in accordance with Maine Maritime Academy, North Atlantic Conference, New England Football Conference, and NCAA rules, regulations and policies.  Employee must be committed to promoting academic and athletic achievement in a way that is fully integrated with the mission and vision of Maine Maritime Academy and the NCAA Division III philosophy.

DUTIES OF THE JOB

1)      Responsible for Athletic Facilities, makes hiring recommendations and supervises full-time, part-time and student employees assigned to work and operate programs occurring within.

2)      Schedules use of athletic facilities for Intercollegiate Athletics and constituencies including, but not limited to Maine Maritime’s Regimental Staff, ROTC Programs, Student Life, Adams School and various external groups according to institutional and departmental guidelines.

3)      Serves as the Athletics Department liaison to Conference Services, Facilities, Alumni Affairs and Public Relations and works in support of Advancement initiatives.

4)      Manages the implementation of athletic equipment service contract for fitness and weight facilities.  Makes recommendations on the purchase of equipment and supplies for athletic facilities.

5)      Conducts periodic inspection and walkthroughs of all athletic facilities proactively identifying maintenance and health and safety issues. Works with Facilities staff to ensure that the buildings and athletic fields are clean and maintained.

6)      Oversees membership and waiver process for community constituents using athletic facilities.

7)      Serves as the Sports Information Director, developing a comprehensive communications program for intercollegiate athletics, including the management of the official athletic website, social media platforms, web streaming portal, as well as in publications and articles.  Develops web content.

8)      Coordinates Sports Information student staff.  Works in conjunction with the equipment manager for game setup and staffing of home contests.  Oversees in-game statistical compilation using appropriate software and maintains archives and files for all intercollegiate sports.

9)      Ensures that accurate information is available to the public in a timely manner and develops and maintains appropriate relationships with local, regional and national media outlets.

10)  Assists with planning and managing the annual budget.

11)  Assists with the day to day operations of the Athletic Department and in the Director’s absence, assumes responsibility for daily departmental operations.

12)  Participates on committees and in professional organizations within designated areas of responsibility and represents the Director of Athletics at designated meetings, conferences and/or functions.
