Dear Mr. and Mrs. Doe,

Thank you for funding the John and Mary Doe scholarship at Maine Maritime Academy. I am honored to be the recipient.

I thought you might enjoy learning a little bit about me. This is my junior year at MMA, and I am majoring in Marine Transportation Operations. The classes I have enjoyed the most are ABC & XZ. When I graduate I hope to work for an American company in Japan. I think that working and living in Japan would give me the most in-depth business and cultural experience. In the future I may pursue a higher degree, but at this point I am unsure.

My family is relatively small, just my parents and a younger sister. My sister is a senior in high school and hopes to also attend MMA in the fall. My Dad is a high school math teacher and Mom is a nurse at the local hospital. They have worked very hard to make sure my sister and I have the opportunity to attend college, and although they have saved as much as they could the scholarship you have provided has helped ease the pain of the increasing cost of tuition.

Outside of classes I enjoy swimming, canoeing and camping. I am an active member in student government at MMA, and have participated in the America Reads Program, as well as the Alternative Spring Break. Additionally, I enjoy reading books on leadership and history.

It would be a pleasure to meet you in person and I hope that it will happen one day. Until then, please accept my thanks and appreciation for your scholarship. Someday I hope I will be able to help a young person with their education as you have helped me.

Sincerely,

Jane Smith

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Doe,

It is with great gratitude and humility that I write in appreciation of your generous gift in support of my education. As a second-year student at a college of this caliber and expense I tell you that your gift is both much needed and much appreciated. It is through your support and others like you, that I, a young man with little means, am able to attend MMA.

To me your gift represents much more than just a monetary gift, it represents a belief in the promise of equal opportunity. By providing resources to students who need and deserve it most, you are helping to ensure that one's economic situation is not a barrier to their intellectual growth. Moreover, you've shown through your willingness to award excellence that you believe in the power of education and it's ability to better both the world and the individual.

There are no words to express my gratitude for the interest you've taken in my personal and intellectual well being and I take seriously the mandate given to me by such an award. I intend to work hard to maintain and improve upon my current academic record and to strive to become a contributing and forthright member of society.

Again, thank you for your kind and selfless contribution on my behalf.

Sincerely,

John Smith

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Doe,/p>

I am writing to extend my greatest appreciation and honor to be a recipient of your most generous donation to students in need. Your gift in the form of scholarship dollars, has given me the opportunity to attend one of the greatest schools in the nation, a situation I find myself in because of the goodness of your heart.

I am currently a sophomore at MMA. I am majoring in International Business and Logistics, with hopes of continuing my studies in the graduate program here as well. I was born and raised in the great state of Maine and I hope to raise my own family here one day.

In high school, I was on the varsity tennis team, and did various other organizations such as student government, chess club, and volunteer organizations in hospitals. Here at MMA, I am very involved in student organizations. I recently joined SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise). We are really excited about an upcoming project that involves traveling to other colleges in the Northeast to help them form their own SIFE club. Academically, I am doing well, and hopefully should be in good shape for acceptance into the graduate program.

I feel I have really become part of the MMA community here, and taken advantage of everything the school has to offer. I am very happy with choosing to go to school here, and have no regrets whatsoever over the choices. I will continue to work hard in all aspects of my life. I thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for helping me really enjoy my college years, a period I will most surely never forget. I will never forget the generosity you have shown me. I only hope that one day I can do the same that you have done for so many students.

Sincerely,

Jane Smith
