Castine, Maine – Dr. William Brennan, President of Maine Maritime Academy (MMA), today announced that the college will host its 4th annual Convocation on Monday, September 2, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Alexander Field House. Members of the Castine community are invited and encouraged to attend.
The Convocation ceremony was introduced in 2010, establishing a new tradition to welcome all incoming students, as well as second-, third- and fourth-year students, in a formal ceremony that marks the beginning of the college experience with the same enthusiasm and celebration as commencement exercises.
The ceremony theme, A Community of Pride, will highlight the importance of the whole community in contributing to and enriching the total educational experience for students throughout their college career. “At Convocation, we focus on the role of community in fostering learning,” said Dr. Brennan. “We’ll be asking our faculty, staff, and friends to affirm their support of our students. We invite the community to join this gathering as a reminder that they truly make an impact on our students.”
Recognizing the roles that all faculty and staff of the college play in creating a sound educational environment, the college has invited all members of the MMA campus community to participate in a unified procession. Campus and community leaders, including members of the MMA Board of Trustees, members of the Maine State Legislature, and Castine Selectman Peter Vogell, will speak at the ceremony and offer their welcome.
