Job Skills Workshop to Reveal the Do’s and Don’ts of Job Interviewing

CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy’s Student Business and Logistics Association, or SBLA, and Career Services will co-host an “Effective Interviewing” workshop on Thursday, February 28, from 5:15 to 6:45 p.m. in the Alumni Lecture Hall on the Maine Maritime Academy campus.

The workshop will feature Destiny Demo, Regional Human Resources Manager for Cianbro Corporation. Her lecture will address some of the challenges she faces in recruiting, selecting, and retaining employees.  She will also discuss what it takes to interview effectively and how to avoid common pitfalls many jobseekers make during an interview.

“For students and job hunters, interviewing can be nerve-wracking and uncomfortable,” said Dr. Elaine Potoker, MMA Loeb-Sullivan School of International Business and Logistics professor. “Being prepared can make all the difference and this workshop is a great first step.”

Destiny Demo has been with Cianbro for 11 years, and started her career on the corporate switchboard after college. She studied Business Administration at the University of Southern Maine.  The team she leads at Cianbro performs the recruitment, hiring and personnel management for four of Cianbro’s business units within the states of Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts. She has previously held roles of Administrator, Recruiter and HR Generalist.

This event is free and open to the public. This will be one of two workshops focusing on career and workplace issues of importance to students and those who advise them, as well as to the extended MMA community. The second workshop will be April 10, and will focus on tips for working in a union environment.
