CASTINE, Maine - It has been an action-packed summer of learning already for the freshman and juniors at the Maine Maritime Academy who have been hard at work on the summer training cruise aboard the Training Ship State of Maine. After seven weeks at sea, four ports-of-call and untold numbers of real-world sea experiences, the ship is headed back to its homeport of Castine, ME.
The ship will stop briefly in Searsport this Saturday, June 30th, where it will take on parents of the juniors and invited guests for the final leg of the journey across Penobscot Bay to Castine. Visitors and news media wishing to see the ship arrive should go to the Castine Waterfront. The ship should be visible in the Castine Harbor about 2:00 p.m.
You can review the daily log of activities and the hundreds of photos from the cruise at http://cruise.mainemaritime.edu. Updates to the Saturday return schedule will be posted there as well.
Visitors should consider parking at the Stevens Street Lot or behind Curtis Hall to avoid the inevitable congestion downtown.
