CASTINE, Maine – Dr. Elaine Potoker of Maine Maritime Academy has been selected to receive her second Fulbright Award as a senior specialist in the Fulbright Specialist Program.
Dr. Potoker (Elaine Hyams) is a full Professor in the Graduate and Undergraduate Programs and the Director of Caribbean/Central American Outreach for Maine Maritime Academy's Loeb-Sullivan School of International Business and Logistics. In 2007, she had a traditional Fulbright Award as a lecturer/researcher in Costa Rica.
The Fulbright Senior Specialist and other Fulbright Programs promote linkages between U.S. and foreign academics and professionals. It is sponsored by the State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. The FSP awards grants to qualified U.S. faculty and professionals to engage in short-term collaborative projects at foreign higher education institutions.
The Senior Specialist projects generally last from two to six weeks and are focused on select disciplines. The grants support the development of linkages between institutions and the professional development of the recipients by enhancing their global perspective.
As a Senior Specialist in Business Administration and Economics, she will spend two months in Costa Rica this summer, building on the work she did on her first Fulbright award, focusing on small- to medium-sized business development issues related to logistics infrastructure.
