Transfer Students
Transfer students will be considered for advanced standing on the quality of their credentials.
- Present an official transcript of work completed at accredited colleges or universities
- Have at least a 2.0 GPA in major courses
- The amount of transfer credits will depend on the application of the courses to MMA's curriculum as evaluated by the Registrar
- Courses for transfer must be equivalent to a grade of "C" or better from an accredited college or university
- Courses from an approved military program are transferable where applicable. Submit an American Council on Education SMART (Navy/Marine Corps) or AART (Army).
- Courses with a grade of less than C will be reviewed by the appropriate department chair
- Transfer credits submitted from foreign colleges and universities will only be considered after they have been
evaluated by a professional analyst
- Transfer credits are not used in calculating the student's QPA at Maine Maritime.
Applicants for transfer must submit the following:
- an application for admission
- a letter indicating interest in transfer
- a non-refundable $15 application fee
- a certified transcript of all grades received at institutions of higher education
- a letter of recommendation from the dean of students of the last institution attended
- an official high school transcript
- the most recent SAT or ACT scores
* Maine Maritime reserves the right to solicit confidential opinions from school officials concerning a student's potential for success at MMA, both in the classroom and in our unique social environment.
Application deadlines:
Rolling Admissions - Applications reviewed on a rolling or regular basis until:
- May 30 (for fall semester)
- November 1 (for spring semester)*
Early Decision -
December 20 (Fall entrants only).

PLEASE NOTE:
- Transfer students are urged to have an interview with the Director of Admissions.
- Visits or telephone interviews should be planned for weekdays.
- Transfer students may be asked to provide a copy of the college catalog where the course(s) were taken.
- With qualifying scores on the Advanced Placement (AP) examination and College-Level Examination Program (CLEP), transfer credit can be awarded where applicable.

- Academic credit may be awarded for life experiences or formal non-academic training.

In accordance with federal regulations, third officer
Merchant Marine license students must be in training for a minimum of three years. Accordingly, except in unusual circumstances, transfer students in those majors must spend a minimum of this time in training.
