Recruiting at Maine Maritime Academy

Information for companies and businesses interested in recruiting Maine Maritime Academy students.

Welcome to Maine Maritime Academy, we hope your trip to our campus was safe and enjoyable.

We encourage you to link into our College’s external web site to get to know our student training facilities and the majors we have to offer your organization.

Our students upon graduation hit the ground running because they have had the opportunity to work in the real world while attending Maine Maritime Academy.

Their hard work ethic, combined with an excellent academic foundation and co-op work experiences, make our graduates in high demand.
Our recruiting year generally starts in October and runs through mid April. The traditional recruiting strategy goes something like this:

  1. Call the Career & Co-op Services Office and inform us of your interest to visit campus.
  2. We will schedule a presentation time for your company at 4:00 p.m. on an open date, Monday through Thursday. A later time is possible if flight times and/or student athletic schedules conflict.
  3. Students are encouraged to sign up two weeks before the presentation, to ensure there is interest in your organization. Web site addresses, hand out materials and job descriptions should be sent to us to help inform and stimulate interest. All classes and faculty are invited to attend your informational presentations.
  4. We will call you one week before your scheduled presentation time to inform you of the number of students signed up.
  5. Interviews are arranged after the presentation for the following day. Generally companies meet with student for about a half of an hour. Students who choose to interview are expected to bring their resume and unofficial copy of their transcript.
  6. To help stimulate interest, organizations are encouraged to set an informational table up in the foyer of the Dining Hall from 11:00 am to 1:00 p.m. on the day of the presentation.

Career Services and Cooperative Education

MMA Alumni & Students Working in Industry

As a career-oriented college, Maine Maritime Academy enjoys a long-standing tradition of providing graduates to industry who are competent and ready to work. The Office of Career Services contributes to this tradition by providing opportunities for undergraduates to apply their skills in workplace settings and to learn alongside professionals in their fields. We work directly with faculty and students to coordinate cadet shipping billets and summer co-op experiences that support the undergraduate curriculum, contribute to personal growth and professional competency, and serve our partners in industry.

In anticipation of graduation, we are pleased to assist students by offering important resources and information throughout the employment search process. We provide career counseling and job vacancy leads, while coordinating opportunities for employers and students to meet. We continue to offer employment search information and support to alumni throughout their careers.

We encourage all students to begin career planning and pre-employment exploration soon after matriculation, and to continue refining the process throughout their time at Maine Maritime Academy. We extend an open invitation to all students and alumni to visit our offices in Captain Quick Hall.

Director, Career Services and Cooperative Education
