Corning School of Ocean Studies

The Corning School of Ocean Studies offers comprehensive majors in Marine Biology and Marine Science. Graduates are employed in all areas of research, resource management, aquaculture, oceanography, or in other areas of the ocean sciences, and pursue more advanced degrees, as well.

Please note: The Corning School is pleased to announce that Marine Biology and Marine Science majors have an opportunity to receive a Maine Secondary Education Teaching Certification for the sciences. This new development addresses:

college students rising interest in becoming educators, and
a severe shortage of qualified science/math teachers.

The objectives of Marine Biology and Marine Science are to:

Provide a broad understanding of basic science and to develop the ability to apply scientific methodology in a variety of ocean settings
Stimulate intellectual curiosity in the humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences;
Develop skills in analysis, critical thinking, and communications;
Provide competence in computing, information technology, and data analysis;
Develop the ability to work as a leader and as a member of a team in interdisciplinary field work or research projects;
Develop an awareness of the ocean environment and of human impact on the ocean's ecosystems;
Provide specific job-oriented skills that will enhance employment opportunities; and
Provide opportunity for work experiences which reinforce Maine Maritime's commitment to the work ethic.
Our Loeb-Sullivan School of International Business & Logistics offers a special 4 + 1 option for obtaining a Master of Science degree for MMA graduates. Regardless of major, MMA B.Sc. degree recipients may apply to the Loeb-Sullivan graduate school for a one-year fast track to an advanced degree.
