CASTINE, Maine - While Maine Maritime Academy's Training Ship State of Maine officially got underway yesterday, the cruise web page got underway a week earlier on Facebook. The Cruise Facebook page provides followers with updates from the Captain, as well as photos and videos from numerous contributors.

CASTINE, Maine – Dr. Elaine Potoker of Maine Maritime Academy has been selected to receive her second Fulbright Award as a senior specialist in the Fulbright Specialist Program.

MMA Commencement Set for May 5, Available via Live Webstream

CASTINE, Maine – The Honorable David T. Matsuda, Maritime Administrator. will address the graduating class at the Maine Maritime Academy (MMA) 69th Commencement on Saturday, May 5, 2012, at 11 a.m., in the Alexander Fieldhouse. As Maritime Administrator, Matsuda is the highest ranking official of the Maritime Administration of the United States. In this role he advises and assists the U.S. Secretary of Transportation on commercial maritime matters, the U.S. maritime industry, and strategic sealift.

Mariners Capture Kruger Cup

NEW LONDON, Conn. – Maine Maritime Academy sailors won the Second Annual Kruger Cup at The United States Coast Guard Academy on Sunday, April 8. The Mariners were in second place at the end of Saturday's races, but finished the event with first place finishes in the final three races on Sunday to secure the victory. Read the full story.

MMA Trustees to Meet May 4, 2012

CASTINE, Maine  — The Board of Trustees of Maine Maritime Academy will hold a regular quarterly meeting on Friday, May 4, 2012, at 4 p.m., in the Holmes Alumni Heritage Room, located on the lower level of the Harold Alfond Student Center on the college campus in Castine, Maine. Standing Committees of the Board of Trustees will also meet throughout the day at various times.

MMA To Hold Service Academy Informational Workshop

CASTINE, Maine - Maine Maritime Academy will host an informational workshop for prospective students and their parents on gaining admission to Federal service academies, public maritime academies, or private military colleges. The workshop, offered free of charge and open to the public, will be presented at the Hilton Garden Inn, located at 250 Haskell Road in Bangor, Maine, on Wednesday, May 9, 2012, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Registration will take place from 5:30-6 p.m., and the information program will take place from 6-8:30 p.m.

Upcoming Seminar: Maine Gateways to International Trade

CASTINE, Maine – The Student Business Logistics Association (SBLA) of the Maine Maritime Academy (MMA) Loeb-Sullivan School of International Business and Logistics will host a logistics and transportation seminar this spring. Set for Thursday, April 12, 2012, at the Hilton Garden Inn, 250 Haskell Road, Bangor, “Maine’s Gateways to International Trade” will focus on Maine as a rising gateway for international trade.

The seminar is open to the public by advance registration.

Training Cruise to Visit Southern U.S. and Tropical Ports

CASTINE, Maine - Maine Maritime Academy students, officers, and crew will visit southern U.S. and tropical ports as part of the college’s annual two-month training cruise to foreign and domestic ports-of-call. This year’s training cruise itinerary includes Galveston, Texas, May 18-21; Wilemstad, Curaçao, June 1-4; St. Georges, Bermuda, June 11-14; and Charleston, S.C., June 22-25. The ship will host a family day sail on the return leg from Searsport to Castine. The training ship will depart Castine on Tuesday, May 8, with sailing operations beginning at 7:15 a.m., and departure at approximately 8 a.m.

MMA to Celebrate Visiting Professors

CASTINE, Maine – The Maine Maritime Academy (MMA) International Student Ambassadors (ISA) will host a celebration of the academic expertise of two visiting professors at the college as they near the completion of their academic year appointment. Capt. Oguz Atik and Dr. Alexander  Kuznetsov, will collaborate to present “A View of Life, Commerce, and More From St. Petersburg and Izmir” on Thursday, March 29, 2012, at 4 p.m. in Delano Auditorium. The presentation, expected to last approximately one hour, will conclude with a question and answer period.

The presentation is open to the public.
